HOW TO INSTALL YOUR SWINT LED LIGHT KIT
1) Be sure your bike is clean and cooled off before you begin installation. The 3-M tape used, will not adhere to a dirty surface. Plan out the placement of your complete system, BEFORE you mount with tape & ties. Remember: Lights are for display purposes only. Please check local laws and follow them when using our product.
2) Inventory your kit. Lay out all of the pieces, so you can see the complete kit.
Standard Kit: 1 Swint Spine pre-wired harness, 1 package w/ 5 connectors & 8 extensions, big & small zip ties & bag of lights
Custom-Pro Kit: 1 Swint Spine pre-wired harness, 1 package w/ 1 Y-connector, 4- W connectors, 10 extensions, big & small zip ties, bag of lights, 4 strips, 2 mini-pods & 6 bars
3) The Swint Spine is designed to connect to your motorcycle's 12 volt battery. DO NOT splice this system into anything! The battery connections are simple. The Positive/fuse line of the spine must be attached to the battery's Positive connection. The C-design of the end, is for easy addition to the battery post. The Ground line can then be added to the battery's post. The Switch must be placed, but NOT Mounted until everything else is set. You can use the 3-M tape, already provided on the Switch. Try to mount the Switch discreetly, yet convenient for easy access. The 5 connection "Lines" remain. Notice these plugs are female. The Swint Spine has no male plugs. Depending on where you mount the lights, will determine how these 5 lines are spread out on your motorcycle. With good planning, you can mount your lights with a minimum of pieces. Each of the 5 lines on the Swint Spine MUST be used. From there, the ways of getting power to the lights, with the Y-connectors (standard kit) or Y and W connectors (custom-pro kit) & extensions, are endless.
4) The female plugs, on this whole system, have the catch/release clip on its top. The male plugs have a raised bevel on its top & 'pinchers' on the sides, which work with the catch/release of the female plug. You will hear a small 'click' when the female & male connect together. It's just as important to push down on the release and hold the male plug by the sides when you disconnect them. Try it out on one of your extensions. The pins are placed by machine, but if at anytime, one of the pins are dislodged, push them back in with a small pointed object. Remember: any work or connecting that you do should be done with the lights switched off.
5) To mount the lights, you must first determine where you want them. To check the effect of the lights before you mount them, connect 1 Bar, 1 Pod & 1 Mini-Pod to a Y-connector (standard kit) or W-connector (custom-pro kit). The Y-connector or W-connector is then connected to a couple of 90cm extensions (end to end) and then connected to the Swint Spine. With the Spine turned on, you can move the lights around to determine the best results. The mini-pods work well in tight spots. Blue painters tape can be used as a temporary mount when checking the effects of the lights, before you mount them with the 3-M tape. Keep the harness & necessary connections away from hot engine parts, moving pieces & parts, etc. Once you have determined where lights are to be placed, wipe down each spot with de-natured alcohol. Mount the lights by peeling the paper off the 3-M tape and placing them one by one on the bike. This should only be done after you have a good idea where each light will go, where each Y and W connectors will go and know what lines will need extensions. Only then should you mount the lights with 3-M tape and zip-ties.
6) Secure the system to the bike. The harness and all of the lines to the lights, should be hidden as much as much as possible, then secured with the zip-ties provided. The lights and the switch also use 3-M double sided tape to help secure to the bike. Be sure that the wires or lights are not too close to any heat source or moving parts, etc.
7) The Swint Spine has 5 light connections. Each of these lines can accept the male end of any light, Y/W Connector or line Extension. To expand 5 Lines to 12 connections, you must use all 5 Y/W connectors, somewhere within the system.
